THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF MANHASSET (UCC)
Our People
We are a community of believers in Jesus Christ trying to live lives of faith that glorify God. We believe that being a part of Christ's church means loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and loving our neighbors as we love ourselves.
We are working to promote the peace and love of Christ in our community and around the world.
We are a congregation made up of people from diverse backgrounds, holding a variety of beliefs and opinions, and involved in different parts of our community.
We come together with a common faith to worship God, and we invite everyone to bring their own unique talents, gifts and wisdom to these efforts.
Our Worship
Whether you are searching or refining your faith;
Whether you are just starting your spiritual journey
Or are a long time traveler,
Whether your roots are Protestant, Catholic,
Jewish or none at all,
You are invited to participate in whatever way you wish
To whatever extent you wish.
You are warmly welcomed.
"No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here."
Through our worship and by our actions, we strive as a community of faith to live out Christ's message to love one another.
Through the dynamic voices of our chancel choir, inspiring sermons by our ministers and shared prayers of the people, we seek to connect with God in meaningful and life-changing ways. We practice open communion, quarterly. Regardless of your religious affiliation, or lack thereof, we believe everyone is welcome to Christ's table.
Sunday morning worship begins at 10:00AM. At 10:15 children, ages (Pre-k - 5th Grade) and youth, grades (6th-12th) are dismissed to their Sunday School classes.
Once a month as a community of fatih, we share our joys and concerns as we participate in a time of prayer led by our ministers.
Our congregation is led in worship by our children and teenagers once a month on Family Sundays. Our youth serve as ushers and scripture readers and our children's choir performs. On Family Sunday's, a special children's sermon is presented by one of our ministers.
Throughout the year, we offer special worship services , including a Maundy Thursday service, Good Friday service, and Christmas Eve service. Please contact the church office at (516-627-4911) for information regarding the dates and times of these services.
Our Heritage
The Congregational Church of Manhasset, with a history that dates back to its organization in the fall of 1939, has accomplished great things in the community and in the world, touching the lives of thousands with the Christian message and in countless other ways.
Under the encouraging leadership of Ward Neil and Sherill Newton, an organizational meeting for a congregational-type church was held in August, 1939. At 4p.m., on the first Sunday of October, a family service was conducted at Munsey Park Center with an attendance of a dozen adults and five children. During 1940, our charter was granted on April 27, activities were moved to the Onderdonk Mansion, and Rev. Stephen Ayers was called as minister.
Groundbreaking ceremonies for our present building were held in May, 1948, and the cornerstone was laid on October 24. Dedication of the building followed on June 12 of 1949. During 1955, we dedicated a chapel, a church school wing, and a pastors study. In 1958 the Parish Hall stage was completed and in 1962 the pipe organ was installed and the chancel was remodeled.
Over the years, we have treasured memories of the dedicated service of a changing variety of assistant and associate ministers, directors of Christian education, choir directors and organists, and other members of a committed church staff.
As a community of faith, we look forward to the years ahead as we minister to members of our church family, to our communities, and to those throughout our world.

United Church of Christ
We are people of God's extravagant welcome. What matters to you, matters to us. The United Church of Christ. We are about faith and justice, exploration and understanding. So, no matter who you are, or where you are on lifes journey, you and your questions are welcome here.
Founded in 1957, The UCC is grounded in the ancient Church of the New Testament and in historic streams of Christianity in this country, dating back to the Pilgrims and German immigrants in the colonial Pennsylvania.
In our generation, we seek and serve God in innovative ways. God continues to form us through new people among us, offering a multicultural mosaic that reflects all of creation. We celebrate our common ground, while honoring our differences: In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, diversity; in all things, charity.
Though prayer, sacraments, and worship; through the arts and sciences; through compassionate and political acts; and particularly in the voices of those who suffer, God is at work in our hearts and minds, in faith communities, and in the wider world.
