About
Us
Our Beliefs
- We believe in Jesus Christ.
We are a Christian church, and along with
Christians throughout the ages we believe that God has revealed God's
self
to us in the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- We believe in freedom.
We are a Protestant church, and keeping with that
tradition, we believe each person has the ability and the right to enter
into
his/her own relationship with God and to interpret scripture in light of
that
relationship. We call this belief, The Priesthood of All
Believers, which
means the church and its ministers are servants that help people in
their own
relationship with God rather than middle-men who mediate between people
and God.
- We believe in diversity.
We view the diversity of belief within our
church as
a strength and seek to find common ground together and to learn from
each
other as we serve God and humanity.
- We believe in cooperation.
We are a part of The United Church of
Christ. We
combine our efforts with other churches in our denomination for the
purposes
of service and fellowship. We also join together with churches of
various
denominations on Long Island through
The Long Island Council of
Churches
and all of the churches and synagogues in our local community through
the
Manhasset Clergy Association.
- We believe in local
autonomy. Although we are a part of a larger
denomination,
the members of our church decide how our church will operate and
practice. In
matters of business, we are democratic; each member has a vote. We
do not
answer to bishops or any other church hierarchy. Instead, we enter
into
voluntary cooperation with other churches in our denomination on a
local, state
and national level.
- We believe God welcomes
everyone. We practice open communion, which
means
if you are present at our church on a Sunday we partake of communion,
you are
welcome to participate regardless of whether or not you are a member of
our church,
another church or none. No matter what your religious background
may or may
not be, there is room at the Lord's table for you. We invite
everyone to become
a member of our church. The only requirements for membership are
that you be
baptized and "own the church covenant." We recognize
the baptism of any other
church and are glad to baptize anyone who has not yet been baptized.
We ask every
member to "own the church covenant," which states, "I commit to love God
with all
my heart, strength, soul and mind, and I commit to love my neighbor as
myself." No
other statement of belief is necessary.

Ministries and
Activities
Our community of faith has an abundance of activities for all ages. We meet for
worship on Sunday mornings at 8 AM (casual chapel service) and 10 AM. After the 10
AM service, our members gather during the Fellowship Hour for conversation and coffee.
Also, we have special opportunities for worship and learning during special seasons
of the church year such as Lent and Advent. Here are some of the regular events that
occur at our church:
Adults--Women's Club, Men's Club, Sunday Seminar, Wednesday Night
Theology Class, New Horizons Group, Young Adults Group (20's-40's), Chancel
Choir, and others.
Youth (6th-12th grades)--The Pilgrim Fellowship
(PF) has weekly activities for service and fun as well as other events throughout the
year: summer mission trip, ski trip, Christmas Tree Sale and sleepover, and fall retreat.
Children (Pre-Kindergarten-5th
grade)--The children have Sunday School each Sunday morning at 10 AM. They also have
monthly Helping Hands Projects where they make cards and gifts for homebound members or
support local and international social agencies (Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, Samaritan's
Purse International, etc.). The children also enjoy seasonal events for education
and fun, such as Vacation Bible School, Halloween and Valentine's Day parties, and the
annual Advent Workshop and Christmas Caroling.
