Youth Mission Trip
In June 2006, fifteen members of our church youth group, Pilgrim
Fellowship, and two chaperones went to Nashville for a week-long mission
trip to serve others. While there, they work with Habitat for
Humanity and Better Tomorrows Adult Education Center. (see

One Great Hour of Sharing
Each year, our members contribute to the
"One Great Hour of Sharing"
offering
United Church of Christ congregations
throughout the
country along with those
from other denominations join together to receive
this offering to help the needy
people
in over 70 countries around the world.
Our combined gifts provide
food and medicine,
tools and equipment,
education and assistance in disaster relief.
Souper Bowl of Caring
Each winter, the PFers take part in the Souper Bowl of Caring. They
collect
over $300 and 200 lbs. of food for The
Interfaith Nutrition Network.
Children's Helping Hands Projects
Once a month, the children participate in a
Helping Hands Project where
they have an
opportunity to reach out to others in our church, our community
and around the world.
In addition, the children give an offering every week
that goes to sponsor a child in a
developing country via Children International.
Past Helping Hands Projects include:

Fun at Adventures in Learning
Adventures in Learning is an after-school tutorial
program for local at-risk
children.
In December, our Sunday School children decorated stockings for
each child. The
Adventures children received their stockings filled with gifts
purchased by our church
at their annual Christmas Party. Each year our
church provides $20,000 for this
ministry.
The Angel Tree
The Angel Tree is our annual ministry at Christmas
time where we take
requests from
area ministries and agencies. The requests are placed on
a Christmas tree in our
chapel
foyer. Church members take the requests and purchase the necessary items to help
people in our area. When a request is
taken from the tree, an angel is put in its
place.
The children make these angels
in Sunday School. This year a full month's worth of
requests were placed on
the tree at the beginning of December and after the first week
more needed to
be added. We were thrilled to add more requests throughout December.
A large number of toys, books, clothing, tools, stamps, art supplies and
cookware were
given in Christ's name. It was a wonderful way to celebrate
Christmas!

Volunteers Needed for
Pastor's Committee
Over the years the Pastor’s Committee has
served a number of functions.
Currently they focus on two primary activities: (1) Bundling and
delivering
altar flowers to homebound and/or infirmed church members. (2) Hosting
receptions following funerals and memorial services upon request. While
these are important ministries, the committee’s numbers have dwindled.
Can
you help? If so, please contact the church office.
Adventures in Learning Needs Volunteers
Our church started Adventures in
Learning in 1969 as a community outreach
for at-risk children. The program has
grown and we need volunteers. If you
would like to help with the children some
afternoon, please call the church.
Volunteer Opportunities at the Long Island
Council of Churches
We are fortunate to have such an active Council of Churches on Long Island.
They support our own Rev. Maureen Kessler's ministry at the Nassau County Jail, feed the
hungry, minister to low-income families and foster education and understanding among Long
Island's diverse religious community. Volunteers are needed for short-term projects
and on-going programs. No specific skills are required. If you would like to
help, contact the LICC
directly at their
Hempstead office 565-0390 or the Riverhead office 631-565-0291.
